Successfully downgraded, jailbroke, and upgraded a new, registered KOA to 5.8.2. The only issue was with KUAL (resolution was documented in the KUAL installation spoiler and had to do with the awz2 version not working on KOA and having to use a "booklet version"...for now).

That involved having to first install MrPI and then a KUAL booklet .bin using the ";log mrpi" search term. Then there is a "book" for KUAL that can be populated with extensions. So the order of installation is a bit different than normal.

KOA is, of course new territory. Although, to a layperson it all looks like the same code and such. Can anyone confirm if the backdoor locks, rescue packs (and coward's rescue pack), and ssh all work without bricking?
