knc1..
I'm now in the process of JB'ing my new KT3W.. and yes.. I can confirm it
does make the KT3 "unregistered".. (my serial number: G000KA...)
This confused me a bit.. since I remembered that when JB'ing my PW3, the registration remained intact.
However,
- I connected to Wi-Fi and registered again. You said above "...give the Kindle a little on-line time to get into sync with the Amazon records." Maybe I should have done that?
- Copied the KT3 update file over to the kindle USB root
- Did a md5sum check of the file on the kindle from my Ubuntu CLI
- Pressed the "update your kindle" button
Everything went through normally, though the screen remained static on the "boy under tree" image for a while during the restart.
I can see the "file.ser" and "version.ser" files in the kindle USB root. (What are these?)
The "Device Info" button confirms that I'm on version 5.8.0
So, I'm now ready for the branch delay step..
Any opinion on whether I can proceed?
EDIT: I think vgreader above and I are in the same boat! Only I've done one step more.
