Spoiler:
Quote:
The Pennyfoot hides many secrets and its downstairs staff keeps a tight lip, even when the Edwardian aristocrats are spotted dallying with damsels in the boudoirs, or gambling in the forbidden card rooms hidden below the floorboards. Should now and then one of the hotel guests fall prey to a dastardly murderer, however, it is up to Cecily Sinclair to restore order before Scotland Yard steps in and shuts down her infamous seaside hotel.

ROOM WITH A CLUE

Lady Eleanor Danbury thoroughly enjoyed the view of the ocean from the rooftop garden of the Pennyfoot Hotel, until someone pushed her over to fall four stories to her death. In order to keep secret the goings-on of her illustrious guests, Cecily takes on the task of tracking down a killer. There are no shortage of suspects, since Lady Eleanor managed to alienate everyone with whom she came in contact. That includes the downstairs staff of the hotel, the fellow aristocrats staying at the hotel, and even her own husband. Since Inspector Cranshaw of Scotland Yard is bound and determined to shut down the Pennyfoot and put a stop to all the hanky-panky, Cecily must work fast and be terribly discreet, or she might lose her home and her livelihood….

There are twenty-one books in the Pennyfoot Hotel series, including seven Christmas Editions.

CHECK-OUT TIME

In the midst of planning the Midsummer Ball, Cecily receives surprising news. One of the aristocrats staying at the hotel just checked out, in a most bizarre way. After climbing onto his top floor balcony, he did a little dance on the railing and fell to his death. The downstairs staff are convinced the lord was crackers, but Cecily suspects that the victim had a little help with his dive to the pavement and is determined to prove it.

PAY THE PIPER

The appearance of Scottish pipers in Badgers End has the downstairs staff of the Pennyfoot Hotel all agog. The pipers are there for the bagpipe contest, and the aristocrats upstairs are just as intrigued by all the excitement. Cecily is as thrilled as everyone else, until one of the contestants is found hanging from a hook in the butcher’s cellar, as dead as the beef carcasses on either side of him.

NO CLUE AT THE INN

Two years have passed since Cecily Sinclair sold the Pennyfoot Hotel to her cousin and moved to London. When offered the job of managing the hotel again, she finds it hard to refuse. Having married her own manager, Hugh Baxter, the couple return to Badger’s End, and Cecily is soon embroiled in another mystery when a housemaid goes missing, and a prominent barrister also disappears. It’s a Christmas reunion, but the festivities will have to go on hold while Cecily once more goes on the hunt for a killer.

A couple of other titles in this series that were recently on sale are still reduced somewhat, although not as much as they were.

Berried Alive, was $1.99, now $2.99. Info in this previous post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3325391

Service for Two, was free, now $1.99. Info in this previous post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3324840

I enjoyed this series in DTB days, and hope that more of these titles will go on sale at $1.99 - a totally reasonable price point, IMO, for backlist titles.
