If you can get SSH on it (or install a KUAL extension), the HOME button can be interrogated with software. It would be easier to test it from an SSH session from diagnostics mode though, where the framework will not get in the way. Though even booted from main, we can pause or shutdown the framework, and have total control over everything including device input events (such as home button presses).

TL;DR: Yes!

But if the GUI framework cannot see the button, it may be flakey. Opening the device would let you jumper across the button to see whether it is a bad switch (replaceable) or other hardware (or software) causing the problem.

EDIT: I think K5 diags might already have a home button test built in...
