EDIT: As for your actual issue, barring FW >= 5.6.x shenanigans, make sure the date/time is properly set on your device. We eithe have a KUAL button for that somewhere, or there's a searchbar command to do it (the details should pop up with a quick search).

Thanks. I actually didn't have the device jailbroken for long before I started futzing with it, so I haven't install KUAL yet. I guess that's what I get for being impatient. I'll make that my next step.
Per the Wiki and Device Info, this is a Kindle Basic 2014 running 5.6.5.
