It's like the Leonardo da Vinci thing. As IssyBird pointed out, "da Vinci" is not a last name! It means "from Venci (probably Venice)." That was the first error, of many errors, in book The Da Vinci Code--the error was on the very cover of the book! But, I've given up on people getting that straight after I got bad reviews on a comment that I made about that on a new book seller's website. Sigh.
da Vinci sounds better since it's not English. If it were translated into English, we wouldn't do it because it would sound strange.
