But at 60% off, the current Groupon deal is better than any rebate they've ever offered. I was just hoping to stack with a nice rebate.

You used to be able to use eBucks on rebated books. When ARe do rebates, you pay full price, but the rebated amount is given to you as eBucks.
So this is what happened:
- I have $4.00 in eBucks.
- I see a book that normally is $4.00, but it's on a 75% rebate today.
- I spend my $4.00 eBucks on the book.
- ARe gives me my rebate - I get $3.00 new eBucks.
- I spot a book that is $3.00, but today has a rebate of 50%
- I spend my $3.00 in eBucks, and get my rebate back. Another $1.50 in eBucks.
- Yay for free books and free money!

And so on. Every time someone took advantage of the loop hole, ARe took a loss on the sale (over and over and over and over and...) and they were smart enough to realize that couldn't go on indefinitely. Since they sell DRM-free, I have no issue with them making sure they continue to make a profit so they can stay in business.
