I've read a couple of books on my Sony that I've also had on my iPhone and found that very useful since I always have my iPhone with me. Being able to read the same book on both is very handy.
I use a great program called Calibre (http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net/). It can convert ebooks into epub as well as LRF format and will also organize them for you on your computer. Calibre can also modify the metadata of each ebook allowing you to specifiy author and genre information. Unfortuneatly there is no direct way to install ebooks onto the iPhone; once converted to epub you will have to place the ebook onto a website like Stanza or Fictionwise (http://stanza.fictionwise.com/) for downloading onto our iPhone. The service is free, just go to the site and register. Calibre also has a built-in web server; you can use Stanza on the iPhone to log onto Calibre running on your computer and download onto your iPhone. It's not as difficult as it sounds, info can be found on the Calibre website.
