Those who don't want it can not use it, or simply not buy the version of the cover thst provides it. I just don't understand the pushback against it.

A solar charger for an ereader only makes sense if you'll be away from a power source for extended periods of time; like backpacking or camping. A picnic or a trip to the beach is well within current battery technology to not require additional charging.
Quite frankly, I don't see the need for it. But then, I don't have any objections to it as long as it's an optional accessory. So for those who want it, go for it.
