My preferred choice is to use the calibre plugboard to add abbreviated series info to the end of the Author field rather than to the beginning of the Title field, e.g.
Author: Martin, George RR - ASOIAF 01
Title: A Game of Thrones

This has the advantage that I can sort Kobo book lists and Collections by Author and get all my books in Author/Series sequence. Plus the Kobo's Author field has a smaller font size than the Title field so it doesn't look quite so clunky.

ETA: I guess this wouldn't work so well if you like to create Collections by Author, which I don't. I only use Genre info for Collections.
