Blacklisted Kindle is a Kindle that has been reported stolen.
And even blacklisted Kindle can be used to read side-loaded books, just not DRMed content directly from Amazon (without de-DRMing first).
And are you aware that Josieb1 has been rather ambivalent about which one is the reason why "I was told (in writing) [...] my Kindle Fires would no longer work at all [...]"?

I don't blame Jon for making that mistake.
