Why? Where are you located?
In my case, if my KPW1 (hitting exactly three years at december 12, this year) gets stolen or breaks on route to work, I can have a new KPW3, Voyage, or any Kobo reader I want that very same day if I take some leave and go get it, and if I don't want to do that, I'll have my replacement between 1 and 3 working days depending on where I order it.
Even though I really prefer an e-ink screen at this point, I can always read either on my tablet, or my phone while waiting for the replacement to arrive.
Also, e-readers will become cheaper and cheaper. I've seen discounts for some readers that brought them down to less than €50. I've paid €400 for my first reader, and took a loss of over €150 when I sold it a few months later, due to dissatisfaction with availability of ebooks (and quality, with the ones that were available). Now, the Voyage is a high-end reader. In 5-6 years, such a reader will probably the basic model.
