I doubt it is the browser. The error is when the plugin tries to communicate to with goodreads via the API. If that works, it opens the browser. Or at least that's how I remember it is working. It might be something else on the Mac or the Python libraries. I'll have a look over the weekend, but if it is a Mac specific issue, I probably won't be able to do anything.
