I myself welcome the deviation from the books in that regard. It will make it more difficult for the "it's just a LoTR ripoff" purists/critics to sabotage the show before it's given a chance.

They can say it all they want about the book (the first Shannara book anyway), but the show ain't the books.
Yeah, must confess. Never viewed the Shannara series as "sci-fi" nor really post-apocalyptic sci-fi, even though it obviously was, certainly in...I forget which now, the one with the giant critter and the ancient city.

Must also confess, the whole hoodie thing just turned me right the hell off. Of course, I'm 99.99% sure that MTV isn't targeting this at my demographic. {sigh}.
