I have read the first two books but I do not like them so much. I have seen the Swedish TV-series and films also. The problem with the books and films are that Wallander always succeed. He has to be the hero. In the second book he goes to Riga and is of course more clever then the local police in spite of not knowing the language. In a film I saw he went to South Africa and was the most competent person. And so on. I really do not understand why these books are so popular.
I have seen the first two films with Branagh and it is very strange watching something filmed in Sweden with Swedish signs and with Swedish names but with British actors. Sometimes I forgot myself and expect to hear Swedish and it took a couple of seconds to realise that I should listen in English. They have also gotten the dialog tempo with the silent parts and the typical Swedish mumbling in films and TV series correctly depicted.
