Back in the early days of Flash memory, probably late 1980's or early 1990's I bought a couple of PCMCIA cards from Germany because they were of a size that wasn't available yet in the USA. I don't remember the details of this. There might have been other differences as well. Anyway one of the cards was defective and the company rep was perfectly willing to work with me on this but with fees taxes and postage, etc. I finally decided it wasn't worth it. Keep in mind this was about a $600 card, so the fees and shipping were significant. Again, I don't recall the details.
Anyway after that I've avoided buying from foreign sources with tax complications except for cheap items where I didn't really care if I lost now and then. Some of these Android e-ink devices look pretty tempting to me but it's remembering that experience that keeps me from trying one.
It's worth saying that I think the company I bought that card from wanted to make it good. They were has stuck with this situation as I was.
