Regardless of whatever we happen to be discussing ontopic, offtopic, whatever -- JSWolf is absolutely correct, and I can think of at least a dozen times when failing to quote someone when replying has come to bite me in a miscommunication. (Usually a benevolent confusion, though...)
Of course I can think of more if I include other people.


If there is any chance that your post should only be considered a reply to specific people, it is always a really good idea to be careful and explicitly quote or "@user" people... just in case.
Something which I still often fail to do.
