No, this is not a legal or moral requirement, and when other companies choose to do otherwise, they are not terrible awful no-good companies for making that decision. If you want a device that you have a fair chance of getting replaced when you smash it, buy a Kindle. Happy now? Bye. I'm off to take this shattered wine glass to the shops for a warranty replacement.
