Uh....Kindle 1st Gen?

I certainly have to agree! A friend bought a 1st gen Kindle last year and I helped him set it up. That is the weirdest and clumsiest thing I ever saw. I'm amazed it ever caught on. It was the first one I ever saw but I did see the first Sony readers in the stores years before that. Even the original Sony ereader was light years ahead of the Kindle with respect to physical design.
My first Kindle was the K3 and even that was still pretty clumsy. They're making graceful devices now but it took them a while to get there.
I got a Fire Phone a couple weeks ago and once again, Amazon's 1st gen is very weird and clumsy. I hope they do as well improving it as they did with the Kindles. But right now this thing is kind of a joke. I don't have service on it. It's mainly just an ereader in my pocket so I'm keeping it. It's pretty decent as an ereader but not much good for anything else.
I think the thing about Amazon must be that they hire inept designers who know how to learn from their mistakes. Then they encourage them to make really big mistakes so they can really learn a bunch. And it seems to work.
