I have seen it (rare) change, but I have never pinned down what I did to make it so.
I used to include {id} on the end of my template to help detect dup versions on a file system only bookshelf on my device. For the other reason, this turned out (long term) to be a bad choice as reading position (and recently read) is tied to filename/path
