that bypasses the issue you are having and also stops the bokos covers appearign on the carousel every time you read something. there are many epub reader apps to choose form, some have free trial/demo versions , and the ones no it amazon store can mostly me obtained elsewhere & sideloaded.
meanwhile there is a simple CC tweak to allow your mobi/azw books to appear correctly, just change the default download directory within CC for those formats to "books", instead of "downloads". you can leave it as "downloads" for other formats.
CC will then put your amazon format books into the KF books folder and they will be recognized as books and appear in the KF books tab.

Okay, Im going to have a crack at this, also will look for a epub reader as you suggest. Not sure how to get into CC, but will try (I'll get back to you if I can't find how).
I think also I need to get to know my Kindle Fire better. I have downloaded a few books on it, and will read those first. Silly me, didn't even know about how to set the bookmarks, even though my reading position was set back to the start of the book each time I opened it, I didn't know that the bookmarks could be used (doh!!!), which I have now found! I presumed that these too would be muted, but they aren't. I'm sure however, that a better reader will be the solution long term.
I'm still flying high however, after setting up and enabling the content server. Seems I tried this many times previously, and it never worked for me. This time it went smoothly.
I have also downloaded metadata and cataloged some 500 books of my circa 1500 book collection so far. My digital library is actually taking shape, and I am so pleased. Sat in the garden today and downloaded a book from "my" server... boy did that make me smile!!!
