I don't use the calibre FFDL plugin. I sometimes use the version of FFDL directly from their website. I've always used their downloader and saved the documents to Word and then stripped out all the stuff I didn't want to see. Then I would save it and upload to calibre. I'm not a techy person so I did it that way because I only know the basic of HTML ... like bold, italics, underline ... just the very simple stuff.

It would be very nice if there was an option in calibre to turn off ToC for every EPUB instead of having to do it in each document. Oh well, I'm happy that I figured out how to correct it going forward. I'm extremely thankful for all the help you all have given. I've learned a lot just reading through the blogs and threads.
