Tablet is also handy solution if our eink is not fast enough for our liking at scribbling, highlighting, searching, multitasking tasks, dictionaries etc.
If price is important to us we can get used tablet(e.g. ipad 3/4) and eink (e.g. Kindle DX with installed KPV app) or we can go for lighter (e.g. iPad Air) or smaller (iPad mini) tablet if weight/dimension is important.

I prefer e ink readers for there eye friendly and battery life features.
Kindle DX is not a touch device, with its drawback in annotations and dictionary lookup with not a crisp screen.
