I guess color is very important in those books so you'll need a tablet and if you prefer eink to lcd (because of eyestrain or reading outdoors a lot) then you can read those b/w parts simultaneously on some 10" eink reader.

Tablet is also handy solution if our eink is not fast enough for our liking at scribbling, highlighting, searching, multitasking tasks, dictionaries etc.

If price is important to us we can get used tablet(e.g. ipad 3/4) and eink (e.g. Kindle DX with installed KPV app) or we can go for lighter (e.g. iPad Air) or smaller (iPad mini) tablet if weight/dimension is important.
