After I contacted Audible, I looked at approximate times I'd jotted down for the repetitions and a light bulb went off in my head. I realized that the repetitions were coming at about every 70-ish minutes--the usual time of a CD. I've listened to some library CDs where the narrator says "End of Disc 1," then for the next, "Beginning of Disc 2." When the break isn't at a chapter, sometimes the disc repeats the last sentence of the previous disc.
So I think this file was prepared from a set of CDs, and somebody cut out all those disc designations without checking for the repetitions. Don't know if that would have the publisher creating the file, or Audible.
