That does seem to be an issue for a small proportion of people, yes. Most people using an eInk reader find that after a few hours' usage, their brain simply filters out the flicker and they stop being consciously aware of it. And of course on modern eInk screens the flicker is much less obtrusive than it was on the older ones.
