I haven't been able to use the Kindle Lending Library at all, because it isn't worth $78 to me to borrow 12 books. I mean really. My husband has Prime so I get the shipping benefit which is nice, but I can go through 12 books in 2 weeks (as opposed to a year ). And like you said most of these books are cheap and self-published and go free every now and then. So that is also not worth it to me.
But Scribd...so far in the past month or so I have read 25 books and I have hundreds more in my library. So I'm going to go paid with it when my 3 months are up.

That's one of the ways I use the lending feature too, although I usually get the books I want pretty fast at lendleme. It does help though to be in a group reading the same genre.
I take it your husband has a separate account so you can't borrow any books via his account? Or is it just too much trouble? (This is the nosy writer in me. I often hear that it isn't worth it and I just like to continue to collect data.)
