My reasons for having animals is because they were about to be put to death. Mostly because they were old, crippled or sick. Some because, like you, the former family could not deal with a behavior problem. My way of thinking was that it was at least marginally better to have the animals living with me than it was to kill them.
Other than that .... well, I really shouldn't have animals because I'm so damn allergic to them.

Oh! I wish we could have done that! But borders? Distance? Québec is a long ways off...
My little guy used to spray kitchen counters and the cooking stove and all window sills and carpets and cloth upholstery. He was a real walking bladder! Oh, and I forget the cooking utensils pot next to the stove. The hours washing and the shame the odours brought, to the point of not having visits anymore.
