Do you link the change to the 3.2.0 firmware?
I don't use much footnotes in epubs, but in kepubs it's easy to tap the number (you don't need to have a precise touch) and then a pop-up window appears. From there you can close it and go back to where you were or view more details by going to the footnote page. to go back there is an arrow.
So if it's firmware related, maybe you can use the kepub extension while waiting on an update fixing that
