...is that the place I need to put data.tar.gz and RUNME.sh? If so, is
this the correct RUNME.sh to use? The other ones I've seen so far are more "proof-of-concept" only, and don't really do anything except
print out to the screen or
copy a file. (Are all of the copies of data.tar.gz the same?)
This thread (K5/Paperwhite Jailbreak and USBNet) is linked from the
wiki under data.tar.gz, yet I don't see either data.tar.gz or RUNME.sh in either the kindle-jailbreak-1.9.N.zip archive or the kindle-usbnet-0.15.N.zip archive. (Did I miss something?)
There are books and other things on this Kindle that the owner would like to keep. I'd like to get as much as possible of the contents off before doing a factory reset. Is that as simple as copying the contents of the USB drive (user store) off of the Kindle and into a directory on Ubuntu?
Is there any harm in moving the factory update completely off the Kindle and seeing what happens? Is there anything else I would need to remove in order to convince the Kindle that there's nothing to update? (I suppose I'll know more after I hook up the serial cable...)
I ordered the serial cable and connector today. I expect to have them in about a week.
Thank you all for your time.
EDIT: Hmmmmmm....
this looks rather interesting... The RUNME.sh posted there looks fantastic... Is the restart at step 3 really needed? It doesn't seem like it does anything.
