This year's devices will most likely have support for the new DRM, so maybe next year someone will decide to start using/enforcing it; at which point the problems start all over again (last year's gen not supporting things).

Maybe some reader brands will decide to update their current gen right away, as doing so (along with the new devices) may be simpler than having to revisit the issue next year or the year after... and if one company starts doing that, others may follow as none wants to risk being the one left out...

It's not cancelled until they all agree to stop using DRM altogether...
