Can you download the book you've bought directly from the Sony ebookstore to Adobe Digital Editions (click DOWNLOAD NOW from the book in your library and tell it to open in Adobe Digital Editions, assuming you've installed that first)? After that, it's easy. The book will download in ADE. You can then either put the book directly on your Sony using ADE, or you can hoik it out to work with it. You'll find it in ~/Documents/Digital Editions. It may or may not have DRM on it. You'll need to figure out how to take this off, if you wish to. Google Apprentice Alf.

Really, forget the Sony software. ADE -> Calibre works.
