Not disagreeing, but I still don't see the fundamental issue as being much different with ebooks than with paper books. In fact paper books are much harder to back up with paper copies. Even if one views the library system as 'cloud storage' for paper books there is no guarantee that the book will be there forever, in fact it is highly unlikely.
Out of print paper books can often be found online these days, but not so 30 years ago. And it is becoming increasingly easier to find ebook versions of backlist or obscure titles than paper.
I'm not saying don't De-DRM or backup, in fact if keeping books to reread is important to you than you should. I am saying that it is far easier to keep these books than it ever was with paper, and without DRM publishers would be selling far less ebooks and libraries would not have many ebooks that are still under copyright protection.
