Just a standard Qi charger, really (i.e., the device you've just mentioned) -- the main purpose being to dedicate the USB port of my devices to music. (Another application might be to travel with a really inexpensive Qi charger and keep your more expensive devices in sealed plastic bags along with your clothes -- especially if you stay in seedy urban hotels!)

While I've never read that particular book, I used to have a literate girlfriend who swore by it. She also worked as an escort briefly before I knew her, so I like to think she discovered The Girl, the Gold Watch &tc. in some sordid scenario, perhaps involving a special reading room for mercenary cigar aficionados.
