Well, three phone calls (I got dropped twice when being put on hold) and about a half hour of time, all told, repeating my story and arguing with a rep who kept insisting that one book didn't count because I got it free, constitutes rather a lot of inconvenience, I think.

It sounds to me like after the first flurry of phone calls and e-mails, perhaps they started realizing that they'd screwed up and became more apologetic, and stopped acting as though giving the customers what they were entitled to was some sort of special favor.

I didn't consider it "bragging" when people said they got extra. It's just reporting a fact.
