I personally wouldn't get CromeBook, unless it was a third computer. I do too many things on my main rig. But if I was choosing an "Internet" computer for my mother it would be choice Number One. It has much less chance of being screwed by an user, a virus or something else.
Plus, there are much less things to confuse the user.
For a tinkerer that is not afraid to salvage parts from a Dumper there are much better and cheaper options
