I'm sure they allocate a certain amount for online sales. Once sold, the online deals are gone. Then it's time to stand in line at the stores.

However... because of earlier opening times, stores are now having several blocks of doorbuster deals in order to give traditional shoppers a chance at the hot deals. It wouldn't surprise me if they split online sales into several blocks also.

Bottom line - don't give up on the online deals. Something just might drop later on. After all, Black Friday isn't over with until Saturday night.
