I took it back to the store and I did get a refund but the sales assistant was very rude about it, having a go at me for using it, saying that as I had used it I shouldn't really be entitled to a refund! So yes I did get a refund but it wasn't a pleasant experience.
Eeek! That sounds like a rotten experience shanghaichica. Exactly the kind of thing I'd be worried about.

Thats a good shout by gargoyle67 about using a credit card to pay so you are covered that way, but that is only if it is very obviously faulty - although yours very clearly was! My concern was that they wouldn't accept something like the light band across the top or slight scratches as a fault and it'd be a fight to get a refund. If it has any kind of blemishes on the screen, I don't want it, I'll stick to my old ereader in that case and wait until they get it right. Even with Amazon's far better customer service reputation, I'm still wary of clicking the buy button.... its so frustrating that you can't buy a lighted ereader with full confidence that you won't need to try and exchange it.

samhy's original post explaining it is earlier in the thread here, but it's basically the difference you can see in the pictures of the back of the black and pink Aura's. The black clearly has a pattern, while the pink looks smooth - so you can confirm it is smooth?
