Lost all my Column icon settings

In the process of looking into this issue, I took a screen shot of the Look and Feel->Main Interface tab before hitting Restore defaults. After restart I put the settings for icon size and splash back to how I like them (small and off). Then I looked down my book list and noticed all my column icons were gone.

I flicked through the Look and Feel->Cover Grid, Book Details, Tag Browser settings, they were just as I expected to find them, and when I look at the relevant display I can see they were each as I like to have them

But all my Columns Icon settings were gone. So I restored my configuration settings back to the last backup (20131015 0917 UTC), but I still don't see my column icon settings. So two questions -

1. Why did Restore defaults on Look and Feel->Main Interface clear the settings in the Column icons tab, but not the other tabs.

2. Where are the rules stored, I realise they probably wont be there now, but they may be recoverable if I knew where to look. And I'd like to include them in my backups so if I lose them again I wont have to recreate them from my own memory, which ain't too flash these days

BR
