it's seems you are correct. I cancelled my subscription (for now). The 2 issues I did get were in black and white on Nook for PC and after asking them about the back issues, I got this message (regarding the original sale on sept 4-6) :

If you wish to unsubscribe the magazine please follow the steps listed below:

1. Visit www.bn.com and click on Account located to the right of our logo.

2. Sign In to your Account and click on "My Account”.

3. Now click on "Manage Your NOOK Subscriptions" Under Digital Content tab.

4. Click on the "Magazines", locate the publication you wish to cancel.

5. Then Click on "Cancel your subscription".
