You can adjust speeds on ipods as well but there are so few options that every setting is too fast or too slow. It's great for me to play audiobooks on my phone because I don't have as much time as I'd like to sit and read, so I can be at the gym, cleaning the basement, mowing the lawn, etc. and still be "reading".
So I would suggest that, if you're interested. Smart Audiobook player is the best Android audiobook player - I've tried them all.

Thanks for recommending this, as I've been looking for an Android app. I did download Akimbo the other day but haven't tried it out yet.

The developer is very responsive to questions and requests, and the app is updated regularly.
My wife and I have both settled on that one.

MortPlayer Audiobooks (Android) is a great one too.... especially for mp3 audiobooks. I always hated listening to my mp3 audiobooks on my ipod because I would have to create a playlist and then remember what 'disc' i was on, even though the ipod remembered where i was once I got to the right disc. Mortplayer does all of that and more. I'm kinda addicted to them now. Tried a few others, but can't remember which ones anymore
