Well, I use my phone (or sometimes laptop) for most messaging and suchlike, whereas my iPad is mainly for comics and a few games, which I have set not to interrupt me. iOS alerts are very customisable. I read a couple of novels on it recently just because some Netgalley publishers fail to make an epub available. I turned the brightness down very low, and the background to a sepia. Still kept me awake.
FWIW, my Glo doesn't seem to keep me awake any more than a paper book does. Certainly a few times I've tried and tried to stay awake with a captivating ebook, and failed!
