The biggest difference between PW and PW2 appears to be that PW2 uses the new eInk tech so the screen is higher contrast (even with the light "off") and the text is supposed to be darker when lit. It also has Goodreads integration, but if I had to guess that'll probably come to the current PW at some point if it's important to you.
The Sony T3 is similar in specs to the T1 and T2, but has the higher resolution screen Amazon and Kobo have been using for the past year. It has a cover that attaches as part of the back of the device, so it appears at this time that you have to use either the cover it comes with or the optional lighted cover (the device doesn't have a frontlight). The biggest issue I have with the Sony is it looks like it's going to cost more than a PW or Kobo Glo with less features. If they'd make it $99 or something it'd be pretty attractive price wise.
