You guys are starting to worry me...
My first book teaches investigators how to read firearm evidence at crime scenes, so I've got a bit of a background in this.
Any semi-auto .22 would do the trick. Home made silencers are easy to make, the simplest that I'm aware of is a toilet paper tube stuffed with a kotex, they are good for one shot. It could be taped to the barrel with electrical tape. The sound could be heard but it wouldn't sound like a gunshot. Keep in mind with such a setup you can't see the sights, but it doesn't sound like they are needed in this scene. It's my understanding that revolvers don't work well with suppressors because of the lack of a good seal between the cylinder and the barrel (that leaks noise and gas). You can probable surf around on the net and find other home-made silencers. The Ruger MkII or MkIII, as mentioned, would work fine but may be hard to conceal. Berreta makes their Bobcat .22 that's much smaller.
