Looking at the Calibre Sub-Forums, Library Management has the largest number of threads *and* the largest number of posts. Plug-ins is fifth in number of threads and fourth in number of posts so it doesn't look like the users are obsessed with it: Of the 134,000 posts in the Forum 9,000 or so concern plug-ins. Even generic conversion issues only reach 11,000, so 85% or so of the activity is totally unrelated in any way to platform transportability.
Rather Calibre Forum users seem mostly concerned with usability.
Hardly a shock with a program that adds features weekly and does content acquisition, management, and distribution.
Calibre is trivial to start using but a bear to master.
Rather like Chess or Go.

Or we can think that ereaders are beginning to learn how to use the search function and don't need to start their own threads asking how to convert?
A bit off topic, but do you think congress should enact legislation that requires all ebook distributors to provide software that easily converts their proprietary ebooks into an open format such as epub?
