Yes and no.
The purpose was not to spam threads but simply to post the news (see the forum section this is in) together with a poll. The reason this is an endless discussion is obviously because it is, as of yet, unresolved. Simply ignoring the problem is stupid as then the hardliners on both sides will take over and MR
is a proper forum for such a discussion.
Also, I think the new copyright duration thread is contructive and therefore advances the discussion. Of course, this assumes that the MR readers don't just forget it before the next round.
