There are several approaches.
- Install an alternative launcher and resize the mosaic widget. ADW.Launcher and GO Launcher have this option. I don't know how many covers this shows.
- Remove the mosaic widget and use the Kobo big widget. You only see the last book that you read, as well as your progress, but it's better than nothing.
- Remove the widgets altogether and just launch directly into the Kobo reader app, selecting books from the shelf view.
I know that none of those are giving you exactly what you want, but if you want to get rid of the advertising they work.
