Here it was, Black Friday and there were only two other customers in the entire store. The staff was very eager to help me. When I asked about the ad, they said that corporate had decided not to participate in Black Friday. No wonder the store was so empty; no BF sales. So I thanked them and headed to Best Buy next door.
Can you imagine the lost revenue they suffered for those three days? Anyway, the following year, they were participating again and I picked up a few items.

The stores that went nuts on Black Friday this year, to the extent of opening in the middle of the night, got a lot of blowback from it. When I was at B&N wiating for them to open (at their usual time), there were several comments - all of them favorable to B&N.
(My own employer did a modest BF sale, but nothing spectacular. Our overall sales were down over last year - but your gross margin dollars - and profits - were not only up, but up by quite a bit. And customers also appreciated that we didn't make them stand in line for hours only to find out we'd sold out what they were there for within minutes of opening.)
