I'd go with the wifi only model. If you have a smartphone, it can be used as a wifi hotspot. It currently works great with my nook color. I don't yet have an e-ink device but I want to believe it would work with any wireless device.

I'm trying and failing to imagine a scenario where I'd need the 3g for syncing purposes. I don't own a kindle but isn't there a sync button-type thing on there somewhere? Can't I take my wifi-only kindle to the beach, read half of a book, come home, push the "sync" button and continue reading on my android tablet?
Hmm...maybe if I were to travel with multiple wifi-only devices to somewhere with no wifi...?
I really think I'm missing something here. Maybe y'all read differently from me.
