It's a new OS. Maybe you should have waited to see if it would do what you needed it to do before buying. Assuming that because the previous model did it means the next one will too, even when it's an entirely new OS, is a mistake on your part. Why blame Sony for your assumptions?

Stuff changes and not always for the better for everyone's needs. It's better for most but not for all. In your case it wasn't a better change. You have to work within the parameters of the device. Not the other way around.

If the PDF format is so important to you then the wise thing would have been for you to wait to see how the device handled PDFs before buying. But you didn't. The previous Readers were able to handle several more formats than this one. They changed it. It's their device. They're allowed to. Whether it works for your needs is another story entirely. I'm bummed that they don't read Word Documents anymore but I have to deal with it.
